A friend of mine once told me, “If I can’t be good, I’ll at least be responsive.” I too try to be very responsive to customers, prospects, partners and fellow employees.
There was a time at Nutanix when I was also very responsive to job seekers; I certainly respect those who would like to work here. But when I joined Nutanix a little over 2 years ago, we had around 150 employees. Today we have over 1,000.
Nutanix is one of the hottest young companies in the technology sector. We have very high reviews at GlassDoor and in other forums. But because Nutanix is a very selective employer – you can imagine how many job inquiry requests we must get in order to grow so quickly.
I personally probably receive an average of 1 – 3 requests each business day – though I just received one this morning (Sunday) which was the inspiration for this post. At the bottom of my LinkedIn profile, I include advice for applying on-line at Nutanix.
But in reality, if I wanted a job in Nutanix sales or channels, I’d come to the table with an opportunity. That’s the way to grab attention. In fact, that’s exactly what I did. I sold my first Nutanix implementation before even accepting a job with the company – and had others in the queue.
Additionally, Nutanix is a very savvy practitioner of social media. I suggest strategic Twitter following and tweets, LinkedIn connections and updates, and – of course, blogging. The industry knowledge, relationships and recognition you accrue will certainly help you achieve your objectives.
